Pickering
Laboratories Inc – The Company
Pickering Laboratories designs, manufactures, and sells specialized
analytical chemistry instruments and solutions for the environmental,
pharmaceutical and biochemical laboratory markets. While these
markets have completely separate and distinct requirements, we
offer to each a complete package, including detailed methods,
customer applications, and service support. Based upon the analytical
technology known as liquid chromatography, an elegant, non-destructive
analytical chemistry technique for separating a mixture of compounds,
our systems make it possible to identify a wide range of compounds
with high sensitivity and specificity.
For the environmental market we provide testing systems for pesticides
and herbicides. Carbamates, the most widely employed biodegradable
pesticides in the world, “self-destruct” harmlessly
when applied properly. The U.S. EPA and foreign government agencies,
however, concerned about the possibility of migrating toxic residues,
have mandated testing of drinking water supplies. Commercial products
like SEVIN® contain the carbamate compound Carbaryl. Roundup®
and Rodeo®, popular biodegradable herbicides, contain glyphosate
as an active ingredient. Environmental agencies concerned about
trace levels of glyphosate in water and food supplies employ our
systems optimized for monitoring this material.
Pickering Laboratories also supplies complete packages for the
analysis of amino acids. These systems deployed worldwide are
essential in clinical laboratories for disease detection and monitoring
phyciologic fluids for efficacy of therapeutics. The Food Industry
utilizes Pickering systems to monitor nutritional levels in food,
beverages and animal feeds. Amino acid analysis is also used for
molecular structure and quality control of pharmaceuticals as
well as biotechnology products and by-products. Detection of amino
acids can be carried out using either our TRIONE® patented
ninhydrin reagent for visible detection, or o-Phthaladehyde for
fluorescence detection.
In addition to our standard methods, we are pursuing new growth
areas; naturally occurring mycotoxins such as Aflatoxins, Fumonisins,
Deoxynivalenol and others; Accelerated amino acid analysis to
achieve separation of 44 amino acids in under 80 minutes; Antibiotics
such as Stretomycin, Neomycin, Gentamicin and others; Paraquat
and Diquat herbicide analysis.
We sell our products worldwide direct and through major analytical
instrument companies and qualified independent distributors.
Good relationships and communication with government agencies
and resellers enables Pickering Laboratories to react quickly
to the changing needs of our users. By continually improving existing
methods and investing in discovery of new technologies for the
environmental and biochemical laboratories we have built a 20-year
reputation for service, support and innovative chemistry.
