Freeze Dry Inc - The Company
Oregon Freeze Dry, Inc. is the largest freeze-drying company
in the US, with an annual capacity of over twenty million kilograms.
The company is both a manufacturer/processor of freeze-dried materials,
and a designer/fabricator of freeze-drying equipment, controls,
and facilities. Depending on market requirements, OFD may act
as toll dryer, ingredient supplier, and/or developer-manufacturer
of finished products. Current business areas include specialty
and pharmaceutical chemicals, medical devices, sensitive biologicals,
and prepared foods/ingredients.
The company manufactures under FDA, USDA, and/or EPA regulations.
OFD is distinguished by the novel application of freeze-drying
to solve processing or preservation problems. Typically, these
involve heat-, shear-, or oxygen-sensitive materials for which
other drying methods are impractical or have serious shortcomings.
Notable examples are OFD's commercialization of low Tg polymers,
high molecular weight alcohols, and hydrogel wound dressings.
In each of these cases OFD converted a process initially considered
as "benchtop only" into a practical manufacturing approach.
OFD is interested in presenting its low temperature, low pressure
drying capabilities to companies seeking defensible methods to
product development.
