Spray Drying
Niro's PSD pharmaceutical spray dryer is a flexible, modern,
and easy-to-handle dryer available with different levels of control
systems. It dries solutions, suspensions, and emulsions into powders.
It can be used as a laboratory spray dryer for testing and development
work, or for batch production.
The PSD offers a choice of three atomizer systems: rotary, co-current
two-fluid nozzle, and fountain two-fluid nozzle. It dries both
aqueous and solvent feedstocks safely. The dryer provides excellent
access and is configured to be Cleaned - In - Place (CIP).
Granulation
Aeromatic-Fielder - flexible processes, either in a high shear
granulator or a fluid bed processor.
Types of Granulation:
- Wet (high / low shear mixers, fluid bed granulation, spray
drying granulation)
- Thermoplastic (melt granulation) The High Shear granulation
process is a fast homogeneous combination of active powder and
excipients with a binder solution or wetting agent using a high-intensity
mixing blade. Batch High Shear Granulation.
- Mixing of dry ingredients
- Liquid Addition
- Wet Granulation Continuous High Shear Granulation
- De-agglomeration of preblended powders
- Liquid Addition and Granulation

General Processor Fluid Bed Spray Granulation
The Spray Granulation Process Fluid bed granulation / agglomeration
methods have been used for many years particularly within the
pharmaceutical industry. The same product container is used as
for fluid bed drying with a spray nozzle assembly fitted above
the product bed. The process has three stages:
- Mixing of the dry ingredients
- Liquid addition and granulation
- Drying of the granule
The top spray granulator agglomerates finer particles into larger,
free flowing granulates in a one-pot process. Ingredients are
mixed and pre-heated by an upward flow of heated air. Granulation
occurs by spraying liquid into the fluidized powder. The granules
are subsequently dried with heated air. The top spray granulator
can also be used for top spray coating, layering from liquids,
and instantizing.
Spray Dryer Granulator
The spray dryer granulator transforms suspensions or solutions
into dry, free-flowing, dustless granules. A suspension or solution
of the substance to be dried is sprayed onto warm air, simultaneously
drying and agglomerating the product. Batch or continuous discharge
is available in the continuous mode, the product is discharged
at a controlled rate to maintain an optimum bed height.
