MolecularNature Limited - The Company
MolecularNature Limited, MNL, is a UK-based discovery company
focused on the targeted discovery of novel, bio-active phytochemicals
from selected temperate plants with known health benefits.
MNL’s proprietary programmes are focused on the discovery
and early development of naturally occurring imino sugars as drug
leads for new therapeutic targets opened up by studies in glycobiology.
Imino sugars are sugar mimics that exhibit potent but highly selective
glycosidase and glycosyl transferase inhibition. Progressing its
world leading position in the identification and isolation of
imino sugars, MNL is currently developing several compounds in
this class as novel therapies for immuno-modulation, cancer and
infectious diseases.
MNL also produces an exceptional library of diverse, pure, novel,
biologically relevant, natural product compounds that are available
to pharmaceutical partners for screening against their drug targets.
MNL’s proprietary Phytoquest® technology, and in-house
phytochemical expertise, are central to the Company’s discovery
process, enabling the intelligent selection of target plants,
and the rapid detection and isolation of a much broader range
of chemical diversity than conventional methodologies. MNL’s
skills and proprietary technology identify and secure those compounds
most likely to be associated with the therapeutic activity of
a specific plant, hence effectively fast-tracking lead discovery.
Plant-derived natural products represent a vast molecular diversity
and functionality, inaccessible by current combinatorial synthesis
methods. It is estimated that a quarter of all prescription drugs
sold world wide contain active ingredients derived from plants.
To efficiently harness this potential, MNL focuses on temperate
plants with a defined therapeutic reputation, where the specific
active constituents have not yet been identified and attributed.
MNL targets plants with reported health benefits in a broad range
of therapeutic areas. This approach maximizes the potential for
discovering novel, biological active compounds, whilst controlling
plant sourcing and re-supply, with no associated biopiracy concerns.
Phytoquest® supports both MNL’s proprietary drug discovery/early
stage development programmes and the creation of its unique, small
molecule natural products library, Phytopure. Through these programmes
and its pharmaceutical collaborations, MNL is harnessing the intrinsic
ability of plants to naturally select those components of biological
utility, and therapeutic value, and is successfully promoting
these in a leading-edge scientific environment.
