Labman produce a vast variety of robots for a large spectrum of applications. To see examples of some of the systems we have installed around the world and video footage of them in action please visit our website: http://www.labman.co.uk

Pharmaceutical / Biotechnology Industry High Throughput Screening Systems

ZEN1: Compound Retrieval and Weighing ZEN1: Compound Retrieval and Weighing

In order to achieve the throughput and system specifications, this system has two robotic arms and two Mettler Toledo balances running in parallel. Vials are weighed and identified with bar code reading and inkjet spraying every 5 seconds!! A front loading, vial tray stacker is incorporated as part of the system and can hold up to 1000 vials, making loading and unloading an easy batch task.

The design is suitable for modification and integration into an automated compound retrieval store with full audit sample weight checking into and out of the store with bar code validation.

Zorac : High Speed Replicator Zorac : High Speed Replicator

This is a high-speed, high throughput microtitre plate Replicator. Designed specifically for new drug discovery, it can copy, with its block of 96 tips, 200 plates/hour. Typical plate to plate transfer times of less than 8 seconds (depending on volumes) are possible. Disposable tips ensure zero carry over. Incorporating an ink jet sprayer to write on the plates and a capper/de-capper, the system can hold 180 destination plates (up to 720plates), 12 source plates and 12 sets of 96 disposable tips. Both 96 and 384 wells plates are accommodated.

Labman High Speed Replicator (HSR) Labman High Speed Replicator (HSR)

This system can be designed as a stand alone, high throughput screening replicator or as part of a fully integrated ultra high throughput screening system with automatic loading and hotel plate storage stations. The 96 disposable tip head can be moved at speeds of up to 3 metres/second. Fully programmable Windows interface software allow variable plate types (96 well, 384 well, micronic blocks, etc.) and transfer volumes of between 5ul and 430ul can be accommodated! A unique touch-off ensures accurate dispensing even at low volumes!

CYTOGENETICS Slide Preparation CYTOGENETICS Slide Preparation

Labman has developed complete slide preparation and microscope slideloading systems for several clients. Microscope slides can be taken, using interchangeable robotic tools, through the whole process of sample barcode reading, capping/de-capping, sample dispensing, centrifugation, washing, drying, staining, glue addition and cover slipping to produce a stained slide. In addition, automation of slide loading onto standard microscope stages is also possible.

HPLC/MS Purification and Reformatting HPLC/MS Purification and Reformatting

This system combines the comprehensive Waters HPLC/MS preparative purification equipment and MassLynx (waters) software with fully automated drydown, re-dissolving and reformatting robotics. All the dry down stages are vacuum monitored to ensure good yield measurements. The process is scheduled to allow for tare weighing and bar code reading in between fraction collecting and cycle critical operations. Both the fraction drydown and reformat (plates and vials) stages are optimised to meet a typical 30ml fraction time of every 9 minutes. The system capacity is designed for full 48 hour unattended operation including output vial capping and output sample report generation.

Forced Degradation Robot Forced Degradation Robot

Used in analytical R&D for new and existing drug candidates. The Degradation Robot was developed by Labman for the pharmaceutical industry who required an automated system with which to test drug samples against various degrading attacks. After sample preparation drug substances are fed into the system and subjected to various physical and chemical attacks i.e Light, Acidic, Hydrolytic etc over a period of time. Results are then analysed by HPLC and the data stored systematically for further analysis.

Immunology Diagnostics filling and capping SystemImmunology Diagnostics filling and capping System

A customer approached Labman with the requirement to automate their production of immumology diagnostic kits. The system needed to fill fritted reaction tubes with a suspended solution, cap the tubes and place them into the kits ready for shipping. The system utilises an RNA bowl feeder, a Flexicon capper, a Cavro RSP-9000 XYZ sytstem and an XL3000 based aspirate and dispense liquid handling syringe all integrated into the Labman system. This combination provides seamless handling, capping and liquid delivery.

Autovial & Compound Weighing Autovial & Compound Weighing

We are pleased to announce the completion of not one but two autovial weighers for a major blue chip pharmaceutical company. The systems perform the following simple functions:

  • 500 vials every six hours with a capacity for 750 vials per system.
  • Sample and Tare weighing to four decimal places.
  • Barcode reading.
  • Capping and De-Capping.
  • Feeding of both ready capped and uncapped vials.
  • Identification of vials that require special processing and replacement of the standard white cap with yellow ones.

Cardiac Sensor System Electrode Painting Robot Cardiac Sensor System Electrode Painting Robot

Labman produced a robotic system that holds over 400 unpainted electrodes. The system coats 2 electrodes at a time using precise liquid handling syringes and a secondary optical sensor to check for overfilling. A flicking operation is performed to remove excessive paint from the outside of the electrode. Each sensor is then held in a drying rack until it has dried sufficiently to be dropped into a collection bin ready for the next stage of the preparation process.
