Encap Drug Delivery – The Company

Encap is a world leader in the provision of liquid fill hard capsule technology. Based near Edinburgh, Scotland, Encap has been providing development (formulation and process) and manufacturing services to the pharmaceutical industry for 14 years.

Liquid fill formulations can be used as alternatives to most solid doses (tablets and powder filled capsules). This is particularly attractive for the following cases:

Poorly soluble compounds Poorly soluble compounds
High potency compounds High potency compounds
Low dose compounds Low dose compounds

Cost Benefits

1) Capital costs of high potency product manufacture and development are reduced in comparison to any powder or tablet formulation alternative. Potent liquids are far less hazardous than potent solids.
2) The validation costs associated with assuring good content uniformity are reduced for liquid formulations compared with powder mixtures, and even wet granulated tablet formulations.
3) Scale-up costs are also reduced as the technology of filling is independent of scale. Encap is able to provide 'full scale' data on batches as small as 6,000 capsules.

The technique of filling into hard shells and sealing the capsule with a gelatin or HPMC band offers the following:
