DxS Ltd – The Company
DxS is a pharmacogenomic business operating at the interface
between genetic diagnostics and the pharmaceutical industry. DxS
is a leading provider of pharmacogenomics by the provision of
genetic analysis services to the healthcare sector. The customer
for these services is the pharmaceutical industry, either directly
or indirectly in partnership with a clinical research organisation.
The service offerings provided by DxS fall into three segments,
which mirror the life cycle of a drug. The services provide support
for drug discovery, drug development and also drug marketing via
the introduction of ‘personalised medicine’.
Founded in 2001, the company’s central laboratory is based
in Manchester, UK and is situated in the heart of the North West
biotechnology zone. DxS is a private company that operates on
a simple fee for service basis. DxS operates in compliance with
Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), has ISO9001: 2000 certification
and is registered with CLIA (US).
The technology underpinning the DxS business is ScorpionsTM -
a homogenous fluorescent polymerase chain reaction (PCR) detection
system. Scorpions was originally invented by Dr. David Whitcombe,
one of the founding directors of DxS, whilst he was at AstraZeneca.
The Scorpions patent estate – including granted US and European
patents – is now owned by DxS and is used as the basis of
the company’s pharmacogenomic operations.
The DxS GenetworkTM is an international alliance of clinical
laboratories that will provide a coordinated diagnostic testing
service to support the launch and sale of personalised medicines.
The Genetwork has been established to meet the needs of the
pharmaceutical industry and provides a cost effective and focused
approach to the delivery of genetic information to allow the selection
of patients likely to respond well to a particular therapy.
DxS aims to be at the heart of the growth in personalised medicine
by providing the diagnostic infrastructure needed to enable the
benefits of pharmacogenomics.
