SmithKline Beecham - Chemistry Pilot Plant Upgrade

This pharmaceutical project was undertaken by Kvaerner.  The scope of the project involved engineering, procurement, construction management and validation.

The project had the following features:

• Upgrade to Actives Pilot Plant special reactions area including hydrogenation and Grignard reactions
• Hastelloy and glass lined vessels to 450l
• New Nutsch filter-dryer (Hastelloy)
• Very low operator exposure limits achieved by use of dispensing booths and glove boxes 
• Rapid transfer port solid transfers on reactor and filter dryer
• Clean room processing suite
• Provision of a new HVAC system, including HEPA filtration
• Provision of new scrubbing packages
• Upgraded PLC installed
