The objective of the project was to design a 12,000 sq. ft. solid dosage manufacturing and packaging area. Approximately 5,500 sq. ft. of this area was designed to maintain 4% relative humidity. A number of products are suspected carcinogens, so HVAC and space pressurization considerations were important. Space pressurization levels were designed to ensure that the non-production and low risk production areas were not contaminated. High-risk areas are kept under negative pressure at all times.
Variable speed drives are used to track the supply with the exhaust systems and to allow for the increased pressure drop through supply and exhaust HEPA filters over time. Breathing air systems were designed to feed the workers' full body suits for much of the area. High purity water, vacuum, compressed air, local dust collection and breathing air were designed for the production areas.
A new direct digital control system was designed for monitoring and control. Packaging and production equipment power supply, production area lighting, close-circuit monitoring of critical production areas, intercom and data transmission lines were designed.
